Have you noticed anything different lately?? Someone is looking a little more polished. A little more professional. A little bit more elegant...

You've got it! It's me. It's the Lauren May SK brand. And I'm sooooo happy with how it looks.

I've been drawing and painting and building my brand (with a number of hiatuses due to babies and full-time parenting/housekeeping duties) for about twelve years now.

What? That's crazy.

I've had unclear goals, divided attention, ever increasing skill and I've had to figure every aspect of running a business- marketing, advertising, copywriting, account keeping, customer relations, brand and product photography, web/graphic designing. etc all by myself. And let me tell you, not much of that came naturally to me and much of it is still an ever evolving work in progress.

So to finally invest in an expert to pull a professional logo and brand look together for 'Lauren May SK' has been a huge step for me. Honestly, it was a scary step too. Not only because it was a significant investment (a lot of work went into it!) but because, as I've said, I have done everything for my brand so far. Even though I've wanted an upgrade for such a long time, it was weirdly harder than I expected to be chill about handing this task over to someone else! The logo that you have seen me use for the last ten years was designed, hand written then edited on photoshop by me and it has just stuck for all these years. It was fine and I still hold a fondness for it and the role it served for such a long time. But it was outside of my abilities to elevate it to a professional look that captures the essence of what I do as an artist.

What's extra nice is that the genius behind Jaffa Creative is my friend Jen. We crossed paths about ten years ago (competing in a Showgirl competition of all things!) and I was so impressed with her beautiful typography/hand lettering that she created. We've crossed paths a few times more over the years (she even assisted in the printing of some large banners featuring my artwork that I needed for client work a while ago) and I wanted her to be the one to help me step my business forward into a new look and a new chapter. It was great! I barely needed to discuss the brief with her because she'd basically seen my journey as an artist and knew what I was needing. I think she did an amazing job.

Anyway, It's times like these that you really need to take stock of how far you've come. Thinking back to some of the iterations of my brand when I was starting out is actually wild. And pretty funny. Or even a little embarrassing?? Even though it shouldn't be. I've always done the best I knew how to at the time for whatever I was working on.

I'm just so glad that my 'best' has come such a long way from those beginning times. I'm looking pretty flash now- both my art AND my brand.
