I have just recieved confirmation that a series of watercolour paintings that I finished a few weeks ago have been accepted to exhibit in 'Botanica' this year!
Botanica is an annual botanical art exhibition held at the Sydney Royal Botanic Gardens. This will be the second year in a row for my work to be included in it. In 2016 the theme of Botanica is to celebrate the Garden’s 200th year anniversary, and the establishment of the first farm which provided the foundation site and plantings of the Garden and the Domain. I chose to paint a series of small fruits based on some of the species brought to Farm Cove from England and Cape Town.
The Strawberry below is one of the paintings that has been accepted. Some of you may have seen some progress shots of the other berries and cherries on my instagram page @LaurenMaySK. Head on over if you would like a sneak preview of them before opening night in April! (tickets to opening night are $55 for non members of the 'Foundations and Friends' of the Botanic Gardens and may be purchased from here. Tickets are limited!)
Botanica at Farm Cove will be on display in the Lion Gate Lodge in the Sydney Royal Botanic Gardens from 9 April until 1 May, open daily 10 am - 4 pm and 10am-8pm on Wednesday 13th April. Entry is free! All artwork is for sale ;)
